NI unveiled significantly increased engagement with the NI software developer community.
At GDevCon #5 in Stuttgart, Germany, Elijah Kerry, Director of Software Community described a number of initiatives: (see attached pdf of Elijah’s slides)
- Presented roadmaps for open source of Actor Framework and Icon Editor.
- Description of 10 investment themes for future development.
- Renewed engagement in the Idea Exchange
- LabVIEW User group engagement, including tools to help create user groups.
- Promotional tools to target NI customers to events in their geography
The presence of nine NI Engineers at GDevCon with participation in conference “huddles”, presentations, and informal dialog with the experienced, enthusiastic LabVIEW developers at the conference.
These initiatives are very welcome, but a concern I noted among a number of attendees was NI’s lack of engagement with the educational sector, which has resulted in a drying up of the new employee pipeline with LabVIEW/NI product knowledge and skills.
