Remember “Zoom” in 1997?

Pioneering live webcasts with remote viewing of VI front panels from Oak Ridge National Labs to the stage of NI Week in Austin: a “bleeding-edge” of technology-driven instrumentation demo.   Today, we take it for granted, but the vision of these pioneers led the way. We stand on their shoulders and often forget how far we have come since then.

On the blurry video you can see that the transmission rate for the thumbnail remote video link was less than 10 kbps!   Imagine streaming Netflix at the rate!

At the same time, the internet has become a much more dangerous place.  One of the biggest challenges and risks to modern society is providing secure connections, free from hackers who tro to paralyze critical infrastructure.
